Cheongju Solar FestivalThis 3-day event goes from Thursday, September 3rd through Saturday, September 5th, with different events, exhibits, and “experiences” from 10am to 6pm. It’s at the Cheongju Industrial Complex, which is the old tobacco factory in Naedeok-dong where the Craft Biennale takes place. You can walk through exhibit halls featuring solar technology, see various contests for drawing and creating solar-related ideas, make your own solar-powered car or fan, and participate in other green energy experiences. There’s also something for the kids (or the kid in each of us) out on the street, where you can make cotton candy, color a little wooden character, request balloon art, or get a temporary tattoo. The Primary CD Release ConcertCheongju-based expat Celtic folk/rock band The Primary release their second album on September 4th with a special 'hometown' gig at Soundgarden in Chungdae. The Primary have been making music in Cheongju for 4 years. They released their debut album, “The Last Great Winter,” in late 2013. Their new album “Arctic Roar” is inspired by the heroic age of Antarctic exploration in the early 20th century. The band will be joined by Zee on fiddle and Jason Cho on cello to fully recreate the sounds and textures of the new album live at Soundgarden. The evening kicks off after 9pm with Ken Ivens providing some stand up comedy, followed by The Primary around 11pm, and continuing at midnight with Dead Man Switch (modern rock covers). The album is available for download from The Primary website and iTunes, or you can buy a CD directly from the band at the show. The Primary are: Jon Lennon (vocals & acoustic guitar), Tony Boyd (guitars, mandolin, banjo), David Sparks (bass), and Matteo Cinanni (drums). http://www.the-primary.com Raise the Rooftop at MJsSaturday night will be another rooftop DJ party at MJs bar in Chungdae.
